Name: British Indian Ocean Territory (IO)
What: country The British Indian Ocean Territory consists of the islands of the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean north of Mauritius. It formerly included Aldabra, Farquhar, and Des Roches Islands, which were returned to the Seychelles in 1976. At present the BIOT population consists only of transient military personnel, with no permanent residents.
